I am sorry I haven't blogged for a while, I will get caught up soon.. I promise!!
Before I came to Ukraine I got a new coat, a long, warm, expensive coat. I really liked it because it had such a fun hood that made me look like an eskimo. As soon as I got here.. that amazing hood ripped off. Eventually it all started to fall apart, the lining on the inside was completely shredded, the pockets were non-existant on the inside, parts were falling off on the outside, and it was all around just becoming problematic. Still warm, so I wore it when I had to on really cold days. But finally this weekend I bought a new coat with all working parts (YESS!!!). I was just going to throw my old one out but as I was on my way back to the Metro with my new and old coat and I ran into a few homeless people. (This is a regular on cold days in the Metro.)
Here is my thing about homeless people. I have a hard time believing anyone is homeless when they are asking for money since there are so many scammers out there just pretending to be homeless.
However I found an elderly looking lady in a corner wearing a small pink coat and I decided she could have my coat. I thought that she might deny it and try not to take it from me but when I gave it to her she looked so grateful and thanked me. It made my heart warmed to know that someone was thankful for my coat. I thought she might give it away again or something.. (again the scammer thought)..
HOWEVER... today I was around the same part of Kiev. We spent the evening on the town and on our way home we just happened to be in the same metro stop. We were in a rush in order to make it home before too late. We were right around the same corner where we saw this lady last weekend.. and there she was. Wearing my coat. I don't know why it shocked me so much to see it, but it did. I got so excited. She just sat there in her corner wearing my big somewhat broken eskimo coat.
This made my night, this made my week. I think this is something that I will always remember about my trip to Kiev. She wasn't a scammer, or maybe she was.. but regardless, she now has a warmer coat to wear because I didn't throw it away.
